Gearing up for Philadelphia

It's a very dreary and drizzly day in Kansas, and it's hard to believe AAM- something of a harbinger of spring- is just around the corner. The Building the NAME Network event is a mere 3 mornings from now.

This year, Stacey Mann was kind enough to help out. Together, we've chatted with colleagues and gotten a sense of some of the burning issues people have been stewing on over the long winter. In order to kick start our conversations on Thursday morning, we wanted to share some of what we've heard. How are these issues playing out for you? What are you hearing from colleagues and coworkers? What else are you grappling with? These are merely a starting point for what we hope will be a great event on Thursday morning- and many conversations to come.

* Community: How do we become better partners with our communities- and how do we expand the boundaries of our communities to include populations we have historically failed to reach as well as the 'virtual' community?

* Engagement and relevancy: How do we connect better with our visitors? How can we create a culture of mutual respect and creation with them- throughout the process of creating an exhibit as well as on our museum floor?

* Technology: the world has changed. How can we harness technology in a meaningful- and cost effective- way? Is technology simply a crutch, or can it create real value and better experience

* The Economy: we're all doing more with less. How can we build partnerships? How can we make our museums speak in new ways to people? How can we, frankly, survive?

See you on Thursday!
